Dynamo: a machine for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy; a generator
"What made the lamp go off? " Will asked.
"The dynamo, I stopped pedaling." His father's friend said.
Thinking about this made questions flood in William's head.
How did a spinning wheel create light? Why does the light come on when you pedal? Why does it work? Can I play with it?
Borrowing this bike meant many experiments. Geoffrey and Will played with the wires, connecting them to the radio and testing the light.
It worked, but why wasn't the radio playing?
"Mister Geoffrey, my experiment shows that the dynamo and the bulb are both working properly," Will said. "So why won't the radio play?"
"I don't know, " Geoffrey responded. "Try connecting them there."
The wires were removed and put into the "AC" section labeled on the radio. As Will pedaled the radio "came to life" playing music from radio station 2.
What can do the pedaling for us so Geoffrey and I can dance?
The bicycle dynamo made Will curious. He had discovered AC and DC power and now wanted to find out how to create electricity for himself.
